This project reimagines the contemporary Miami home as a balance between resilience, domesticity, and tropical living. Designed within a flood-prone context, the house is shaped by the stringent environmental and zoning criteria that define Miami’s urban fabric. Elevation, ventilation, and permeability become not just technical requirements but architectural drivers, informing a compact yet generous two-story residence accompanied by an independent accessory building.

The ground floor organizes daily life around fluid connections between interior and exterior space. Porches on both front and rear façades mediate the transition from street to home, softening solar exposure while encouraging natural airflow. Living and dining areas open toward the landscape, while service spaces are arranged with clarity and efficiency. Above, the private rooms are distributed to capture light, cross-ventilation, and framed views, reinforced by two balconies that extend domestic life outdoors.

Materiality is rooted in Miami’s construction tradition: concrete block walls provide durability against hurricanes, while wood partitions and refined interior finishes create warmth and adaptability. The roof design, drainage systems, and mechanical strategies respond directly to the region’s climate, integrating passive and active measures for long-term resilience.

Site design completes the project’s narrative. The placement of both buildings, the proportion of pervious surfaces, and the careful management of setbacks shape a home that fits respectfully within the neighborhood while enhancing its immediate environment.

More than a residence, this project is an exercise in crafting a thoughtful, climate-responsive dwelling that aligns technical rigor with human comfort—an architectural approach grounded in practicality, simplicity, and tropical character.
